Gold Star families have sacrificed tremendously for our Republic. Over the past two decades, the United States has put an immense burden on military families with numerous foreign conflicts to bring peace and security.
Our volunteer Armed Forces responded with perseverance and courage in the face of terrorists and despotic regimes abroad. Today, we honor those families that lost a loved one in a foreign war. Thousands sacrificed their lives for our country in Iraq and Afghanistan. No citizen should forget the heroism shown by these fearless soldiers.
From the liberation of Europe in 1945 to the counter-insurgency measures against terrorists today, we remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Without them, we would not be the nation we are today.
While in Congress, the most important vote I will ever has is on sending our soldiers to fight in foreign wars. I promise to my constituents and especially those serving in the military that any vote in favor of a military intervention abroad will be done after a thorough investigation on whether it is in the best interests of the United States.
